When you click you increase the fitness of poem A by 1 and decrease poem B by 1. You then have an url in the address bar which instructs the servlet to do so, so if you refresh it does it again. If you don't want to vote you should delete the part of the url after PoetryServlet, press enter, then refresh.
I don't think it matters tho tbh, a truly bad poems is always going to sink to the bottom of the pile and die.
