Yes, I think thats what I was thinking of - a single genetic line accumulating all the mutations itself.

You have convinced me that changes happen not only through mutation.

However, I'm not convinced with the breeding.
To me, the breeding pairs are too different.
It's like you're cross-breeding different species.
When humans, for example, mate, the mating pairs are very similar. There is a lot that they have in common (especially structurally) and only small differences.
